“Inspired by a poem by Paul Laurence Dunbar (who died of tuberculosis in 1906, at the age of 33), “Compensation” takes an unusual narrative approach. Guided and approved by director Zeinabu irene Davis, this 4K digital restoration was undertaken by the Criterion Collection, the UCLA Film and Television Archive, and Wimmin With a Mission Productions in conjunction with The Sundance Institute from a scan of the 16mm original camera negative. MUSOC, the Social and Human Rights Film Exhibition, began in 2012. Since then, it takes place every January in many cities and towns in Asturias, Spain. The fiction, animation, and documentary films that are screened focus on human right issues around the world and raise awareness about social and human experiences that promote justice, equality and solidarity. Free Zone Film Festival is meant to foster a debate on topical issues in the world today.
Bergen International Film Festival
If AI can discriminate, it has huge implications for the technology’s use in housing, career opportunities, healthcare, education, credit, and the legal system. When iconic American author James Baldwin died, he left behind an unfinished manuscript called Remember This House. Director Raoul Peck bases his film on this manuscript, which explores the history of racism in the United States and Baldwin’s memories of assassinated civil rights leaders Medgar Evers, Malcolm X, and Martin Luther King, Jr. The film’s five chapters cover topics like school integration, how white and Black people are portrayed in film, and the history of the exploitation of Black people. The Miracle Worker (1962) This celebrated early work from director Arthur Penn tells the incredible true-life story of Helen Keller and her determined teacher Anne Sullivan, chronicled in remarkable performances by Anne Bancroft and a young Patty Duke. “The Miracle Worker” is anchored by the extraordinary scene where Sullivan tries to teach Keller table manners.
One World International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival is the largest human rights film festival in the world. The Human Rights Film Network (HRFN) is a partnership of more than 40 independent festivals. Through the network, festivals cooperate in the representation of human rights in moving images. They exchange ideas on how to promote human rights films through festivals, broadcasting and educational programmes. They present films that discuss topical human rights issues and promote the screening of high quality films. They share experiences about IamUnspoken.com the organisation of screenings and debates.
Karama Yemen Human Rights Film Festival
It takes place every year in Kyiv in the last week of March. After the end of the festival, Docudays UA traditionally presents the best films in Ukrainian regions during the Traveling Festival. Screenings and discussions of films with human rights experts last from October until December. Throughout the year, Docudays UA popularizes auteur documentary cinema in film theaters as a part of the DOCU/HIT project.
Based on Nelson Mandela’s autobiographical book, Long Walk To Freedom explores the icon’s life from his childhood to his 27 years in prison to his election as the first Black president of South Africa. The film’s producer, Anant Singh, began work on the project following an interview with Mandela while he was still in prison. Singh was then given the film rights after Mandela’s autobiography came out. At the time of writing, many people in the United States no longer have to imagine a time before Roe v. Wade as the consequences are already becoming clear.
“The Janes” inspires those unsure of what to do now that abortion rights are the most threatened they’ve been in decades. “Reversing Roe” is an excellent introduction to anyone interested in the state of abortion and choice in the United States. While it may not dig too deeply into many issues, it sets up a foundation for viewers and inspires them to more learning and action.
Festival Internacional de Cine de Derechos Humanos
The Library of Congress is the largest library in the world, with millions of books, recordings, photographs, newspapers, maps and manuscripts in its collections. Our only chance of survival was luck, our only chance of escaping the rubble, the bombed houses, the ruins of the city. Nowhere in Gaza is safe, especially in the north, where I currently live.
Director Orlando Von Einsiedel first became aware of the White Helmets after watching YouTube footage of them rescuing an infant from rubble. He eventually commissioned Khaleed Khateeb, a volunteer for the SCD and informal documentor of rescue missions, to be the film’s videographer. “The White Helmets” won Best Documentary (Short Subject) at the 89th Academy Awards. Unfortunately, the United States government denied Khateeb’s entry, so he could not attend the ceremony. In India, there’s only one news agency run by Dalit (oppressed-caste) women.
It is a Festival dedicated to short films – up to 25 min – that deal with themes related to Human Rights and Citizenship. Based on the 2005 novel of the same name, “Beasts of No Nation” tells the story of a young boy forced to serve as a child soldier in an unnamed West African country. For years, West Africa has had a high number of child soldiers.
Film provides a way to reach many people easily because it overcomes literacy boundaries. It appeals to the emotion of the audience and can inspire marginalized people into action. The Karama HRFF was established in June 2009, sensing the need for human rights dialogue and advocacy in the Arab region.
